Abuse, Neglect,
& Exploitation

This course introduces the student to information regarding various aspects and types of abuse, neglect, and exploitation in residential settings for children, adults, and the elderly. Types of abuse, neglect, and exploitation are defined, described, and discussed within this course. Indicators of potential situations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation will be identified, and preventative methods demonstrated.

ADD & ADHD

This course will provide basic information concerning ADD and ADHD, and the affect of those disorders on academic, emotional and behavioral success. Participants will go through a review which will include areas such as symptoms, behaviors, and the impact on self-esteem and relationships. Participants will examine tips and strategies which can be utilized to help students be successful in the classroom, and in relationships with others in and outside of the group home setting. In addition, strategies and methods for positive reinforcement and self-esteem building will be explored.

Autism Spectrum Disorders

This course introduces the student to current information related to Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Epidemiology, screening, diagnostic, and assessment information on the three (3) primary conditions within Autism Spectrum Disorders is covered.  Students will learn common terminology as well as, best practices for conducting assessments as part of intervention planning for individuals of all ages with autistic disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-NOS, and Asperger’s Disorder.

HIV/AIDS for Care Providers

This course will provide the care provider relevant knowledge about HIV and AIDS. Demographic, geographic, and incident rate data is presented. To assist in their care of residents, care providers will obtain knowledge on the HIV/AIDS clinical signs, symptoms, modes of transmission, risk factors, prevention, and screening and diagnosis. Common HIV medical complications are presented. The participant will receive an overview of how the HIV virus duplicates and the general classes of drugs that target each stage of HIV replication. Participants will gain an understanding of the psychosocial challenges of persons with HIV/AIDS and the importance of positive psychosocial support systems. Universal precautions and care facility considerations are presented to help care providers minimize accidental occupational exposure.

I Think My Resident is Depressed

This program takes an in-depth look at depression and its related disorders as they pertain to residents of residential care facilities. Contributing factors, diagnostic studies, and current research trends will also be discussed. Special attention is given to proper assessment techniques, providing a safe environment, common treatment modalities, as well as caregiver and family teaching.

Seizure Alert

This program provides an in-depth look at seizures and epilepsy. Seizures are described in great detail as the presentation covers classification, causes, emergency procedures, treatment modalities, as well as current medical screening and diagnostic studies. This course will also include the history and incidence of epilepsy, risk factors, current treatment options, as well as discuss EEG and neuroimaging as they pertain to epilepsy.

Sexual Harassment

This course will provide the sexual harassment training for supervisors as mandated by Assembly Bill1825.  The training will focus on federal and state laws, liability issues, harassment policies, employee rights, supervisor responsibilities, investigation procedures and a number of other items necessary for the success of striving to provide a harassment-free workplace.

Substance Abuse & Treatment

This course will address the issues of substance misuse and abuse in residential care facilities. Participants will obtain insight on substance abuse risk factors and incidence. An overview of the human brain and ways in which abused drugs work in our brain is presented. Administrators and caregivers will learn the most common drugs of abuse, including their effects and risks. This course also presents the National Institute Drug Abuse 13 Principals of Effective Drug Treatment. Various types of treatment programs and approaches to drug abuse treatment will also be addressed.

Tuberculosis (TB)

2 hours

This program will provide an in-depth look at Tuberculosis (TB) And the disease processes affecting today’s population. The pathophysiology of this disease process is discussed in great detail as well as potential complications and treatment. Assessment and care of the resident will be discussed as well.
