CMS Releases Discharge Checklist

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed a planning checklist for persons preparing to leave a hospital or other healthcare setting.  According to CMS, the voluntary checklist is “intended to encourage patients and caregivers to actively participate in the discharge planning process.”

Flu Season Is Here Again

How Serious is the Flu?
Each year in the United States, on average:

5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;
More than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and;
About 36,000 people die from flu.

Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications.

CARF Seeking Public Comment on Proposed Aging Services Standards

The Aging Services Customer Service Unit of CARF, including the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, is updating and streamlining some of the current standards and program descriptions specific to continuing care retirement communities, assisted living, adult day services, and person-centered long term care nursing home communities. 

OSHA Considers Strengthening Personal Protective Equipment Rules

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released a proposed rule on August 19 that could expose employers to liability on a per-employee basis for personal protective equipment violations.  See the press release from OSHA below for more information:
